Knox & Associates, LLC, recently assisted criminal defense attorney C. Michael Williams with a case involving a defendant charged with attempted first degree murder for a shooting in which the alleged victim was shot twice. After completing a comprehensive analysis of the scene and physical evidence, our experts produced a 65-page report detailing what happened and bringing to light numerous questions about the physical evidence that the police never answered. The alleged victim, who was never charged with any crime in connection with the shooting, fired numerous shots at the defendant, even shooting the driver of the car the defendant was in. Our analysis showed that it was impossible to prove who fired first and that the victim's testimony was inconsistent with the physical evidence. It is likely that the victim fired first and that the shooting actually began at another location. After receiving our report, the prosecutor dropped the remaining charges against the defendant, who had already pled guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Michael Knox testified at the murder trial of a defendant in Daytona Beach, Florida, as an expert witness for the State Attorney's Office. The defendant, a cocaine user who was accused of shooting a drug dealer twice and killing him during an apparent attempt to rob him of his cocaine, was facing a charge of second-degree murder. At a hearing in which the defendant claimed immunity from prosecution, he testified that he did not shoot the victim at, but, instead, the victim shot himself as the two struggled over a pistol that the defendant attempted to pull on the victim after the defendant refused to buy crack cocaine from the victim. Knox & Associates put together a comprehensive analysis that showed that the defendant's claims were not possible given the physical evidence in the case. The jury found the defendant guilty of third-degree murder.
